1) My reasons are fairly straightforward, several of my coworkers and friends have joined up, and they recommend the guild as a place for an adult with a life to be able to play with friends and like-minded individuals. No hassle, just fun, and that works well for me.

2) I'm a generally voracious consumer of rpgs and strategy games, and an avid reader of quality fiction of a wide variety (okay that's a lie, I mostly read science fiction and fantasy like every other geek out there, sigh, does it count that I wish I was more well rounded?) Also, I wish more television was like HBO, and that HBO's excellent story-driven series were easier to get without the cable ball-and-chain (too much of a tangent? You did ask, in a way)


3) I've been around the MMO merry-go-round like most gamers, and I've enjoyed some games more than others, but tend to migrate back to those with a stronger setting and story element. I probably have similar tastes to most people playing SWTOR over the age of 25, and I'm hoping it lives up to its promise for at least a little while (my expectations have been suitably lowered by past experience with game-hype). I'm looking forward to Guild Wars 2, but not expecting it to have much more personality than the first Guild Wars - which despite its brave efforts often felt fairly...stale setting-wise. I've of course been playing far too much Skyrim, though I may be approaching burnout with that just in time for SWTOR, and I'm hoping Diablo 3 isn't as terribly derivative as Starcraft 2 was (am I committing heresy saying that?)

Oh, and I work with Sakedo and themadcelt, and possibly some others whom I haven't ferreted out the forum names of. I may also be friends with those two, but I claim the fifth amendment in that regard.

(Let me in, please! I'm so lonely.... Wait that doesn't sound very darkside. Uhh, murder death kill?)

Have you ever read the Phoenix Guards series by Steven Brust by any chance? It's quality fiction. I highly recommend the series.
